300+ Cool Symbols to Copy and Paste
Published February 14, 2026 · 7 min read
Text symbols are the fastest way to make a bio, username, or message look intentional. Unlike emojis, they inherit the color and weight of the text around them, so ★ and ♡ and ✦ blend into a design instead of shouting over it. Below is a large, organized list you can copy straight from this page — every character here is standard Unicode, so it works on Discord, Instagram, TikTok, Roblox, Twitter/X, and anywhere else that accepts text.

Symbols vs. Emojis: Which Should You Use?
They look similar in a picker but behave very differently once pasted.
- Emojis (❤️ ⭐ 🎵) render as small images. They are always colorful, always the same size, and they look identical on every app that supports them.
- Text symbols (♡ ★ ♪) render as characters. They take your text color, scale with your font size, and sit neatly inline — which is why aesthetic bios almost always use them.
A useful rule: use emojis when you want attention, and text symbols when you want atmosphere.
Ready-Made Symbol Combos
Single symbols are fine, but combinations are what make a profile look designed. Copy any of these:

「 ⋆ 」 ‧₊˚ ⋅
❀。• *₊°。 ❀°。
Pair one of these with a Unicode font from our fancy text generator and you have a finished bio in under a minute.
Where Symbols Work (and Where They Break)
Almost every modern platform handles these characters correctly, but there are a few known limits:
- Discord: works in messages, server names, channel names, display names, and status. Channel names lowercase your text and strip spaces.
- Instagram: works in bios, captions, comments, and story text. The @handle itself does not accept symbols.
- TikTok: works in the bio and the display name. Some rarer characters get filtered from the name field.
- Roblox: works in the display name and About section, subject to moderation filtering.
- Twitter/X: works everywhere except the @handle.
- LinkedIn and corporate email: the least reliable. Keep symbols minimal in professional contexts.
Why Some Symbols Show as Boxes
A rectangle or question mark instead of your symbol is called "tofu." It does not mean the character is broken — it means the font on that specific device has no drawing for it. The underlying character is intact and will appear correctly for anyone with a more complete font installed.
If you want maximum compatibility, stick to widely supported blocks: hearts, stars, arrows, card suits, currency, and box drawing all render on essentially every device. The more decorative CJK-adjacent characters (࿐ ᰔᩚ ໒꒱) are the ones most likely to fall back to tofu on older hardware.
Counting Characters Before You Paste
Bio fields are tight: Instagram gives you 150 characters, TikTok 80, and Twitter/X 160. Decorative symbol combos eat through that budget fast, and characters outside the basic Unicode range can count as two. Run your final text through our character counter before you save it, so you are not editing on the platform itself.
FAQ
How do I copy and paste symbols?
Highlight the symbol with your mouse (or long-press on mobile), choose Copy, then paste it wherever you need it. On our symbol picker you can just tap a symbol and it is copied to your clipboard automatically.
Why do some symbols show as empty boxes?
An empty box (called tofu) means your device's font does not include that character. The symbol is still correct — it will display normally on devices with a more complete font. Older Android devices and some smart TVs are the usual culprits.
Are text symbols the same as emojis?
No. Emojis are colorful pictographs that render as images. Text symbols like ★ ♡ ✦ are plain characters that take on the color and size of the surrounding text, which is why they look cleaner in bios and usernames.
Can I use symbols in my username?
It depends on the platform. Discord display names, Roblox bios, Instagram bios, and TikTok bios accept most symbols. Login handles and @usernames are usually restricted to letters, numbers, dots, and underscores.
Do symbols count toward character limits?
Yes. Every symbol counts as at least one character, and some count as two because they live outside the basic Unicode range. If you are close to a bio limit, count your characters before you commit.
Are these symbols safe to use?
Completely. They are standard Unicode characters defined by the Unicode Consortium, the same standard behind every letter you type. Nothing is installed and nothing is downloaded.
